Pacha's Pajamas: A Story Written By Nature Vol. 1 & 2 Review and Giveaway ends 5/31

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

The Pacha’s Pajamas: A Story Written By Nature Vol. 1 & 2 double album was the first full release of the Pacha’s Pajamas series. After an asthma attack, Pacha’s mother gives her a pair of magical pajamas. That night, the animals and plants on Pacha’s new pajamas come to life. Entering her dream disguised as a little gorilla, she comes upon an unlikely group of creatures, large and small, all feeling sad about the state of the world. They decide to organize the greatest festival on Earth to unite all species. They build a stadium—half land, half water; powered by electric eels. Fox News is reporting but its real foxes. Acts include an insect music band called The Beetles, a black-eyed pea that raps, and a beaver named Just-in-Time. At the end of the show, all eyes are on Pacha. As she finishes her dance, her mask comes off revealing to the audience of plants and animals that she is actually human!

The double album features 70 artists spanning four generations including Cheech Marin (The Lion King, Cars), Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def (Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Yo Gabba Gabba!, Cadillac Records), Lester Chambers (The Chamber Brothers, Time Has Come Today), the Grammy-Nominated duo Les Nubians, Rev. Michael Bernard Beckwith of Agape International Spiritual Center, Bill McKibben of global environmental organization 350.org, Talib Kweli, Majora Carter (Peabody Award Winner), the Agape Youth Choir and 30 child artists. Volume 1 won the People’s Choice for Best Children’s Music in the 12th Annual Independent Music Awards and the Parent’s Choice Recommended Award.

The double album was one of the most honored CDs of 2013, receiving the 2013 Family Choice award, the Creative Child Award, the Mom's Choice Gold, the Mr. Dad Seal, and the Academic's Choice Smart Media Award. The song We Are All Connected recently won first place for songwriting in the 2014 Eco-Arts Awards. The album is truly special and unique.

  • Features 70 artists spanning four generations from 8 year Lala to 73 year rock legend Lester Chambers
  • Showcases 30 amazing kids, many of whom have amazing stories (e.g., Lil JaXe stutters when he talks but not when he raps, Amanda Raya is blind, Avalon Theisen started an environmental organization to protect frogs at 9 years old)
  • Inclusive and culturally relevant featuring artists from the many backgrounds including Indigenous, Asian (Chinese, Japanese and Indian), Latino, African American, and Caucasian.
  • Gender BALANCE between male and female
  • Contextualized in a magical story about all of nature coming together that encourages children to be creative and imaginative

My Opinion:
Pacha's Pajamas is a story told with music. I had to listen to it a couple times before I really got into into but now that I have heard it a few times I really like it. I rather have my children listen to music with a positive message like Pacha's Pajamas than most of the music that's out on the radio right now. Pacha's Pajamas is about protecting Earth, loving nature and each other, and so much more. For example Horses Don't See Colors (Like People Do) is about a horse that wants people to know that a horse is still a horse no matter the color and they just love each other. I also love how creative Pacha's Pajamas is. In Coyotes News Network a coyote reports "We’ve had a tomato fight on the red carpet between a tree named Timberland, a Blue Jay-Z, and a Pit-Bull." I thought that was so funny. At first I wasn't sure if my 6 year old daughter actually listened to the stories in the songs but then she started telling me about the caterpillar/butterfly in one of the songs and I realized that she is paying attention. My 9 month old and 2 year old sons still can't talk but I can tell they really enjoy listening to these songs because whenever I put it on they start smiling and dancing. If you listen to all the beautiful stories in Pacha's Pajamas I really believe you will love it.
